David (Dave)

James is a dairy farmers son from Saddleworth in Yorkshire near the Lancashire cotton town of Oldham & dads farm was in Grains Bar on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border then in September 1965 the family moved to Bardney, Lincolnshire.
Dad and his brother & sisters were all dairy farmers who produced, bottled & sold milk in every corner of Oldham & Shaw

Linda is a farmers daughter born & brought up in Lincolnshire, her first job after leaving school was working for a local accountant a job she enjoyed very much, she does all our accounts.
Her dad was an agricultural contractor before buying his own farm near Bardney in 1968

James & Linda met in ’72 married ’73 and together ran a retail dairy business delivering milk to homes & businesses in villages around Lincoln starting with just one round in 1973 and growing to a peak of 9 rounds by the mid 90’s using a fleet of electric milk floats all of which had electronic overdrive & gave them a top speed of about 25 mph. The business was one of the largest independent retail dairies in the county until it was sold to Lincoln Co-op in July 2003

From June 2000 we started running a Catering Equipment hire business but since 2002 we have grown the business to include Marquees, Toilets & Fencing.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE FOR BRITISH FARMING ?
When James & Linda grew up in the 50’s & 60’s between the 2 families we had 7 farms with 50  people employed producing milk, eggs & arable crops, we now do not have a single family member engaged in full time agriculture.
Some of the land we farmed is rented out, some has had to be sold to pay care home fees, some on the Lancashire/Yorkshore border is gradually returning to moor due to the demise of the dairy farming sector.

We now do things like, Marquee & Toilet Hire, Ready Mix Concrete, Skip & Plant Hire,
amongst other things in places as far away as Australia & New Zealand.

Some of our tractors which can be seen at vintage & village shows throughout the year

Fordson Standard at Lincs Steam Rally 18

1950 Nuffield Universal Tractor. Originally TVO but was converted to Diesel in 1959
Been in the family since the 60’s with factory lighting kit & original paintwork which we will retain..
Dad had 2 of these before we first moved to Lincolnshire.

This is a 1941 Fordson Standard TVO tractor and is the latest addition to our collection.
It had steel wheels on when I bought it but I changed them for rubber tyres so It can be moved around more easily.
This tractor is just like the one dad had and I learned to drive it when I was knee high to a grass hopper, it brings back so many memories, I have even found a towbar which is the same as the one on dads tractor.
I won an award in the 4 wheel class at the ‘Show your Car’ night at Lincoln Motor Cycle & Car Club event in 2018

Fordson Standard at Newark 18

1959 Fordson Dexta .
In original off farm condition, has had a front end loader fitted in its past.
We never had one of these but an uncle did.
Mechanically sound but the bodywork is in need of some TLC which it will get in due course.

1960 Whitlock Dinkum Digger, built around a Fordson Power Major skid unit.
We bought this machine in the late 90’s for snow clearing duties but have only used it for that purpose on 2 occasions
It has had a paint job at some time in the past but the intention is to keep it in it’s current condition, during the last 2 years it has had an engine rebuild.

Power Major at Newark 16

1960 Fordson Power Major.
We had one of these tractors when we had Dairy Farms in Lincolnshire & the Lancashire/Yorkshie border.
It was the first tractor we had with Live Drive it was very good when using Mowing Machines, Balers, & Muck Spreaders.
I will probably use it on Road Runs
